This savory sweet side is for sure to be a favorite among the family. No more steamed brussels sprouts that are mushy and lack flavor. This will be your new go-to side and are super simple to put together.
This recipe has you prepare the brussels sprouts in a skillet on the stovetop, which is key to get that crispy exterior. Fresh brussels sprouts are ideal for this recipe. Frozen can be used, and I would recommend steaming in the microwave for half the time the bag requires before cooking in the skillet. Frozen brussels sprouts will not be as likely to crisp up, but they’re still delicious!

Let’s get started
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. For max flavor and crispiness, I recommend using a cast iron pan and let fully heat before using. Take your freshly rinsed brussels sprouts and cut in half. Place them flat side down onto the skillet. Let them cook for 3 full minutes without moving. This will give you a nice crust. Next, add your water to the pan and cover. This will allow the steam to fully cook the brussels sprouts. After 3 minutes of steaming, remove from the skillet and set aside.
The glaze
Now for the good part. If the skillet is pretty hot, turn down to low while we add the glaze ingredients. Mix in the balsamic vinegar, honey, mustard, garlic, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 to 8 minutes, until we get a honey-like texture. Once the glaze has thickened, add your brussels sprouts back in and toss to coat. Simmer for about 2 minutes to warm the brussels sprouts back up and allow time for the glaze to fully coat the brussels sprouts. Once everything is heated up you can serve and enjoy!

Add-Ins
For extra deliciousness, you can also mix in chopped and cooked bacon bits and/or sprinkle with parmesan. You will want to eat this side as a meal!

- Once brussels sprouts are steamed, place in a bowl or plate and set aside.
- In your skillet, mix together the balsamic vinegar, honey, mustard, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5-8 minutes until the texture becomes thickened, almost like honey.
- Once the sauce has thickened, add the brussels sprouts back to the skillet and toss until fully coated. Continue to let the brussels sprouts simmer in the sauce for about 2 minutes to warm them back up.
